The Story Of My Lucky Lacrosse Shoes – Twinkle Twinkle

The Story Of A Special Pair Of Lacrosse Shoes

This is the story of my lucky lacrosse shoes. I have the cutest pair of twinkle shoes.  Amazingly, they were given to me by Megan. That must be why they are so lucky!

Lacrosse has become one of my passions. I love the feeling of the wind in my hair and the stick in my hand.  Most especially, I love the feeling of getting a goal. The story of my lucky lacrosse shoes started on the day of a very important game.

Girls Lacrosse

I woke up on the day of the big game.  I was hoping everything would be perfect. However, we were running late so I threw my gear in the car. When we got to the field I heard my mom say “Holly, did you get your cleats?”

At that moment I knew I was in trouble. The weight of the world came down upon my shoulders.  This was the very moment the story of my lucky lacrosse shoes began. Things start to get twinkly from here.

“Please don’t tell me you forgot your cleats!” my mom said through clenched teeth.

“I can’t do that” I replied.

There was a long silence as my stomach churned. My mom glared. This was almost the story of my demise!

“Sorry” I eeked out.

“Do you have any shoes with you?” My mom asked angrily.

“Yes, but they have sparkles all over them” I said sheepishly. They were very sparkly, actually.  Twinkle Twinkle little…. well, you know the story of the little star. That pretty much summed up my shoes.  Not exactly appropriate for the game of lacrosse.

“Well, I will drop you off and I will go home to get your cleats but I am not happy about this.” My mom said.  She was ticked! My mom was so mad! So far the day hadn’t exactly been perfect.

I sprinted out to the field with my lacrosse stick in one hand and my bag in the other.  Quickly, I shoved my mouth guard in my mouth, put my eye equipment on and got in line for the game.  A couple of minutes after the game started a girl on my team got hurt and coach wanted me to go in for her.  I told him I had twinkle shoes and no cleats. He replied, “Oh well, get out there and kick some butt.”

The Story Of Lacrosse

I love my coach.  He could have been mad like my mom but instead he let me play.  He is the reason the story of my lucky lacrosse shoes came to be. He rocks!

The story of my lacrosse coach.

My cousin, Hanna, was the ref for my game.  She also plays lacrosse and she is on the high school team.

My cousin plays lacrosse.

Our team had the ball and I heard coach yell from the sideline “Holly get open”! So, I did.  “Riley, pass, I’m open” I screeched to my team mate.  As she threw the ball I moved my stick because it was coming to my left instead of my right.  In my head I thought “I am not going to catch this with my left hand” So, I closed my eyes and I felt a tug.  I looked at the stick and saw that I had caught the ball!

I heard everyone cheer and say “go for the goal, go for the goal!”  So I ran. Then, I shot the ball at the net. I thought I missed but heard Hanna blow the whistle.  I thought to myself “I scored a goal!”

“Holly, come here” my coach yelled.  “I think those are your lucky shoes” he said with a weird smile on his face.

“What?” I asked.

“That was your first goal of the season; those are your lucky shoes!” he said.

My mom was still mad because she missed the story of my lucky lacrosse shoes while getting my cleats from home.

I didn’t score another goal in that game but it was the most memorable game of my life.  Coach still thinks my shoes are “lucky”.  Every now and then I send him a note.  In the envelope I always leave a little sparkly glitter.   I still have my twinkle twinkle lucky lacrosse shoes and I take them to every game.  Lacrosse season is coming up again, I wonder if coach will let me wear my lucky lacrosse shoes?  Maybe, if I remind him of the story of my lucky lacrosse shoes he might just let me wear them.  Twinkle Twinkle!
